Olivia's First Birthday!

Olivia turned one on Sunday, November 30th. I can't believe she is already getting so big. She started taking her first steps on Thanksgiving (3 days before her birthday) and is learning new words every day.

I decided to only serve cake & ice cream. My house barely fit everyone and I decided it would have been way too crowded to attempt serving dinner, too. I wanted to make these cute little cupcakes on a stick for her party, but after doing not one but TWO trial runs over the last month, I decided that while they were really cute, they were too time consuming, not that yummy, and over all, just not worth it. So, I made regular cup cakes instead. But, I did find a really delicious recipe for the frosting and I used the toppings that were originally for the mini cupcakes, so I was still happy with the way they turned out.

I spent all this time making Olivia a cute cake for herself. I was really hoping she'd dig into it and make a real big mess. But, she gagged! Yes, that's right. She gagged TWICE! She touched the frosting and then gagged, and then Tyler tried to help her break of a corner of the cake and she gagged again. She wouldn't even taste it. Oh well. She did later enjoy a cupcake, but Wendi had to feed it to her... she wasn't about to touch it. I did catch it all on video, but it isn't letting me upload it. So, I'll try later.

Olivia received all sorts of fun gifts. I am still trying to find a place to put everything. Her favorite seems to be this rocking horse my parents bought her. It's just her size and it makes a galloping noise, whinnies, and its head and tail even move. She can sit on it and rock all by herself and she can also get herself off, which is a pain because she gets off but can't get back on yet. She plays on it all day, kisses it, and pets it.

Wendi gave Olivia a Barney DVD. She loves it. We opened it that night and she and Ellie (Dan & Katy's daughter) stood right in front of the TV to watch it. Is it bad that Olivia is barely one year old and already likes TV?

Happy Birthday Olivia. Meagan, she is so cute. I had to laugh when you said that you made this cute cake for Olivia and she wouldn't touch it because Brylee did the same exact thing and it made me so sad. I always see all of the pictures of kids with frosting all over their face, but not Brylee.
I can't believe it has already been a year. I remember bringing Brylee to visit.
I was laughing at Nicole's comment that you should have another one, because I really am and it has been the hardest thing!!
I hope things are going well, we should get together sometime.
Love, Mel

One year - how fun! I can't wait to get there. However, I love the newborn stage right now. So, yeah, Darek went to Westridge. I'm going over to their house this week for a Christmas party, so we'll have to play the name game!
