We returned home late Saturday night from our family vacation to Lake Powell. It was nice and hot, or should I say miserably hot (Friday was 114 degrees according to the lady at the marina) but that did make for some nice warm water.
Despite the sweltering heat, Olivia was rather content, except when we strapped her life jacket on. I don't blame her though, she looked extremely uncomfortable, like a stuffed sausage-- and not to mention hot. Beads of sweat would appear on her little nose almost the instant that the boat slowed. But once the boat was actually moving she usually fell asleep. The wind kept her cool, and the sound of the motor along with the bouncing of the boat must have been soothing to her. Good thing, because the ride to and from our "spot" was about the only time she would take a nap. The two of us spent most of our time on the "big boat" (because it had a/c) or in the water. She really loved the water as long as she didn't have to wear her life jacket. Luckily we took a little baby raft that she loved to stay in.
Although it is always sad to see a vacation come to an end, home is a very welcoming place when you travel with a baby (or any kids, I imagine).
I'd post pictures but I keep getting an error. So, I'll try later.
We thought about staying another day, but decided it would be best to head home Saturday. And it was a good thing because I woke up at 5:00 Sunday morning with another case of mastitis (glad I was home and not at Lake Powell). Yes, this is the FOURTH time. I was in a lot of pain and felt a fever coming on. I soon found myself cuddled under 2 blankets (including my down comforter) and laying on a hot pad on full heat. I was so cold. I think the pain may have been there earlier Saturday night, but I didn't recognize it since every muscle in my upper body is sore from climbing on the water weenie a hundred times. While I was writhing in pain I said to Tyler, "Remind me why I continue to breastfeed?" His response, "It's cheaper." Thanks for the reminder!
We called the on-call Dr. later that morning-- yes, I consider mastitis an emergency. If you've ever had it, you'd understand why I was not going to wait until Monday! They called in an Rx for me and I am feeling MUCH better, thankfully.
Olivia threw up everywhere this afternoon. And I mean everywhere. I was researching car seat info on the couch and she was sitting on my lap. She was acting tired and cuddly, which is not like her. I laid her in my arms, as if to rock her to sleep and her eyes got heavy. Suddenly, she started crying, sat up, and puked. And she just kept on puking. I was covered from head to toe, except my hair and face. My clothes were soaked, as were hers, the couch was drenched, and it was all over the floor. I didn't know one little tummy could hold that much! I ran her into the bathroom and made a nice big trail of throw up all over the carpet. ARGH. She was crying and I was dripping, so I hurried and took off my clothes so as to not make a bigger mess. While I got her in the bath tub I kept having thoughts of my sister or her husband coming through my front door and making their way into Olivia's room/bathroom, catching a glimpse of me bathing my baby in the buff. Surely that would have scared the bajeebies out of all of us! I was grateful that it didn't happen. I quickly dried her off, dressed her, dressed myself, and cleaned up the couch and carpet. Lucky for me, my couch appears to have come clean. No water spots or barf spots... not yet, at least. And the carpet came away unscathed as well.
She seems to be doing fine now. She's her upbeat, happy self. She did throw up again after we fed her solids, but she seems well. I feel so bad. I just want to take her into my bed and let her sleep with me. That always made me feel better!

Sorry about Olivia...that story brings so many memories of experiences like that, I remember once I was prego when my son puked like that on me and the smell of the puke made "ME" throw up too! YUCK...It's true, how can all that throw-up come from such a small tummy? Hope she's feeling better soon...and you too, girl I give you props for continuing to nurse...with mastitis, when I had it more than three times ...I was DONE! You're a TROOPER! :P
You've gotta love those amazing puke messes. That's a rite of passage in parenting, I think, to have all your clothes saturated in the barf of your favorite kid. Hopefully you'll all feel better quickly.
at least this all didn't hit while you were at lake powell! ;) And yeah!!! I can finally comment again, your blog isn't doing that weird thing anymore. Hope you are all feeling better. And, if you do have to quit nursing, Costco's formula is 2 big cans for 19.97, that's how we are able to do it. And all three of my kids do fine with it. So, just so you know for later reference. You could get some and try it first before you decide to wein her. I've never had mastitus, but i've never nursed very long either. Good luck!
Oh I am so sorry about Olivia! I hate it when kids are sick, especially throwing up, it so sad to see that and you don't really get much of a warning and then it is everywhere! Hopefully it won't last too long! Did you go to Lake Powell with? You are so good! I don't love taking kids there because 1: it is so stinkin hot and 2: I am terrified that they'll drown! Ellie is at the bad stage to take down there! I sure miss it though! That was my favorite place to go grwoing up! I am so sorry about your Mastitis! That is horrible! I can't believe you nave gotten it that many times! SO SO Sorry! Only a few more months right!?!
I am so sorry about Olivia!! That is horrible! I hate having sick kids especially throwing up ones because you have little warning if at all and it goes all over you and everything!! That is awful you have mastitis! I can't believe you have had it that many time! Only a few more months right!?! Who did you go to Lake Powell with? You are so good to go and take Olivia! I don't love taking little kids there, it is too scary for me. Ellie is at the stage where I am afraid she would walk right off the house boat and drown, Carson too! I really miss that place thought, it was my most favorite place to go growing up! Hope life gets better quick for you!! Good luck!
Katy's mom Susan here. I tried to read Twilight because everyone was so GaGa over it. Started reading it wanted to kill Bella in the most horrific way so I had to stop! But it didn't stop me from buying 2 of the books at Sam's! I'm such a follower. My niece said that the Cullens are very interesting, but another friend says that she loves the werewolves! I'm such a rebel I've just started reading the Harry Potter series!
