More Time With Friends...

In my previous post I mentioned that I have been horrible at keeping in touch with my old friends. Well, Katy is one that I actually do talk to fairly frequently. Not so much because we call each other, but mostly because our husbands make the effort to hang out on a regular basis. You see, Tyler and Dan have been best friends from the time they were about 4 years old. They used to ride big wheels together. They took good care of their Big Wheels... they didn't want the wheels to get worn out so they would carry them across the street; evidently Big Wheels were only suitable for the sidewalk.

One of their favorite memories is when, after they had gotten into a fight and gone home mad at each other, Tyler called Dan on the phone. When Dan answered, Tyler said, "Pea-Brain!" and quickly hanged up the phone. Dan says he was SO mad (it was obviously traumatizing since he's remembered it for over 20 years). But, a few hours later, Tyler found himself bored. So, he called Dan back and asked him to play, and they did, as if the whole "Pea-Brain" incident never happened.

Tyler and Dan also had their own special "call." Sort of like a mating call, if you will... only, not for mating, but for playing. According to Tyler, when someone made "the call," it meant "come over." It was much like a whistle, but a little kid's version of a whistle, "Eeee-ooh-eeh!" Dan and Tyler still call to each other this same way (yes, even at 27 years old!). If we are shopping at the mall with Dan & Katy and we can't find them, one of them will call to the other. Or if they spot one another across a parking lot, they don't holler names... they "call." It's pretty funny, especially because you always know exactly who is making that sound.

So, tonight we met up with Dan, Katy & Ellie at Happy Sumo. It's always so fun to hang out with them. They're the type of friends that are "comfortable." There aren't any awkward moments, you don't feel like you have to entertain each other, and you don't care if they see your house messy. We love them!

What cute family pics! You guys are awesome! Hey Meg, hearing them talk about things that they did as kids reminded me of our "morris code" in the windows since I could see your bedroom window from my house and you could see mine if I flashed the lights! Please say that you remember that and that I didn't sit there flashing lights at somebody else!?!?!
