I Hate Crying...

Just a short recap of letting Olivia cry-it-out...

Night 1: She cried for 7 minutes and was asleep. She slept through the night.
Night 2: She fell asleep while eating, so she went down without a peep. But, she also woke up twice.
Night 3: She went to sleep without any crying. She did wake up once, but after 12 minutes of crying she put herself back to sleep and slept the rest of the night!
Night 4: She cried for 45 minutes but then slept the rest of the night. UGH. That was a LONG 45 minutes.

Overall, it seems to be going fairly well except that it is getting harder and harder for me to listen to her cry (at nighttime and naps, too). In order to block out the sad sound of her crying I've taken showers, read books on the front porch, gone downstairs to clean, and more. She is down for her 2nd nap of the day (yes, a little late in the afternoon, I know) but it took her 45 minutes of crying to finally put herself to sleep. In fact, as I write this she is fussing again... darn! I was hoping she was out for a good nap. A few of her naps have even been longer than 30 minutes, so maybe Dr. Weissbluth is right when he says that "sleep begets sleep."

I am sure it will all be worth it when this works out, but until then... this crying is killing me! The fact that I've gotten a few good nights of sleep since starting this is the only thing that is making me stick to it.

Hmmm... she is still crying... almost 1 hour later. UGH.

All I can say is stick to it. We did the same with both our kids, and as hard as it was, I will never regret it. They now know how to put themselves to sleep and sleep so well now. (they are 3 and 1.) good luck! stay strong!

I did it with Aaron, Katy and Ben. I can still remember how hard it was, but I bet that they can't remember any of it! Mom's need a good night sleep period! Keep it up you won't be sorry.
