Just an update for all of you that are so supportive of my barbaric methods of trying to get Olivia to sleep. Okay, so I don't really think it's barbaric, or I wouldn't be doing it... but sometimes the thought of it makes me wanna cry.
So, she fell asleep about 9:00pm last night and slept all night long! She woke up at 7:15am and she wasn't even mad at me for abandoning leaving her alone in her crib to cry herself to sleep. What a relief! I was worried that she'd remember that traumatic night well into adulthood. Even though she whimpered twice (once at 9:45pm and again at 6:15am), I never went in to her room (not even to feed her), and she was back asleep after about 10 seconds. Seriously. Who would have thought that it would be so easy?
I'd better knock on wood, 'cause we're only a few short hours away from night #2. I'll let you all know how it goes. Wish me luck.

i totally remember you! your little girl is beautiful!!!! i'm glad you guys can come to the class. i'll see you then!
Oh, I am so glad to hear that she slept so well. Hopefully she will keep it up and let her mommy get some well needed rest! I have been so lucky that Josh sleeps so well. I do not think I would be a very happy person if he was not sleeping so well (since I have to get up so early for work). I just hope and pray that he keeps his good sleep habits. She is getting so big and I love all the pictures!
I've done the CIO method with all my kids. I firmly believe in it. My kids go down to bed easily and once they get past a year or so, they only VERY rarely wake up during the night for anything. I have to confess that I'm a chicken, though, in the middle of the night. Katie's so loud and insistent, and also on the skinny side because of all her eating issues, that if she wakes up and it's been at least 6 hours since she last ate, I'll feed her. I should have stopped a long time ago...oh, the bad habits! Bedtime, though, is non-negotiable. Same with nap time. Most of the time she goes down without a fuss as long as we have the favorite blanky, but on occasion she has to cry for a few minutes first. INterestingly, when she's really fussing and I've tried to rock her to sleep, she cries even more. Sometimes a girl just has to cry.
Yay for sleep! You know, as long as they're clean, fed, and comfortably warm or cool, I think it's fine to let them get to sleep by themselves. Everyone wakes up at night - we're just able go right back to sleep. Babies can't learn how to do that without the opportunity, now can they? I *have* found that having a consistent bedtime routine helps a TON (as does a blanky or other comfort object). My 14 mo old now just talks or whimpers to himself before he drifts off. Both my kids go right to sleep within 10-15 minutes now. If it's more than that, I know they're either not tired or something's not right. (or my 5 yr old is just being stubborn)
